Modular cold room hire questions

Work back from the peak rather than the average. Decide how much stock has to sit in the room on its busiest day, counted in pallets or in shelved cases, then add enough space to walk in, turn round and get a pallet truck past. The pallet figure shown against each size above is the practical guide.

Two things change that answer. Racking uses the height rather than just the floor, and roughly doubles what a small room holds. And a door that opens all day pulls warm air in every time, so a room in constant use should be sized a little more generously than the stock count alone suggests. Chill strips in the doorway, listed in the accessories above, reduce that loss.

Yes, and it is one of the commonest reasons a UK business takes one. Overflow chilled or frozen storage through a seasonal peak, cover while a fixed cold store is refitted or repaired, bulk holding for a contract pack or a promotion, and extra capacity at a distribution site all use exactly the same room.

The room does not care what is in it, so the questions worth answering are about access rather than product. How often does the door open, does a pallet truck or a forklift have to get inside, and does the stock suit racking or clear floor space. Ramps, racking and pallet doors are all in the accessory list above, and they are what turn a cold room into a working store rather than a cold box.
