Huge Retail Outlet Project

ADA designed a 40,000 sq./ft retail outlet as a sustainable store project without natural gas heating. The challenge was to provide a natural refrigerant solution for the refrigeration system, ultra-low GWP heating system capable of delivering around 400kw of heat to air handlers for distribution around the shop. Hydrocarbon refrigerants were prohibited, and ground source heat pumps were unsuitable. The solution used two dual-temperature DX CO2 booster packs with heat recovery plates for refrigeration and two external air-source heat pumps with load cells for heating. The project met the client's ESG brief, satisfied building insurers, and was within budget. The store had no natural gas heating.
