Seamless Store Expansion: Successful Implementation of Temporary Refrigeration at Giant Foods
Giant Foods was in the process of updating one of its stores with a new prototype design that aimed to incorporate a greater selection of grab-and-go items, food service features, and new in-store meal kit choices. However, these enhancements necessitated the addition of an expansion to the store. In order to facilitate the expansion, it was necessary to remove several refrigerated departments, including the dairy section, from the side of the store where the expansion was planned.
Recognizing that this approach was not feasible, the design team collaborated with Lowe Retail Services to implement a solution that involved utilizing fully self-contained temporary refrigeration and relocating these departments away from the expansion area. This enabled the store to achieve the following objectives:
- Operate continuously in the expansion zone without disrupting customers.
- Maintain the proper display and availability of these vital refrigerated departments to ensure ongoing sales and customer satisfaction.
While the project is still in progress, both the store operations and construction teams are highly pleased with the results achieved thus far. The construction team is able to work more efficiently, and the store operations team can continue to generate sales and maintain customer satisfaction levels as usual.
